COMMUNITY SAFETY TEAM
Community Safety Officers (CSOs) focus on providing municipal support and responses to the community, particularly vulnerable citizens facing issues such as public disorder, homelessness, addiction, and mental health challenges. CSOs conduct visible patrols during both day and night, including bike patrols, primarily in the downtown area. They engage extensively with the business community, first responders, public safety organizations, service providers, and individuals experiencing homelessness.
CSOs connect with vulnerable citizens to help coordinate appropriate social, health, and enforcement responses. They address bylaw violations and incidents of public disorder, assisting those in need. Their approach emphasizes voluntary compliance strategies that include referrals to services, mediation, public education, warnings, restorative justice, and alternative dispute resolution.
